Lifelong Learning

Lifelong learning isn't just a concept--it's a way of life! To most librarians, accepting responsibility for personal learning is easy because we're motivated by intellectual curiosity.

Part of the fun of being a public librarian on an information desk is that we never know what we will be asked next, or who will be asking the question. It gives us pleasure to learn on behalf of our patrons, and to pass on what we learn.

Working in a collegial environment encourages the sharing of knowledge of sources and technologies. This type of learning is often quick, spontaneous and informal.

We also learn by listening to our patrons. They provide the background, perspective, and keywords for our searches, and challenge us to constantly develop.

I believe that viewing learning as play is key. Learn to play, and play to learn!
